6 RoMa Craft Cigars You Need to Try
RoMa Craft Cigars may not stand on the history of cigar producers like Romeo Y Julieta and Montecristo, but they have quickly made their rounds among cigar smokers and other tobacco enthusiasts, leaving everything from surprise to amazement to genuine appreciation in their wake.
Founded in 2012, RoMa Craft Tobac takes its name from its visionaries, Mike Rosales and Skip Martin, combining the first syllable of each of their last names into a memorable brand reminiscent of ancient finery.
Together, they founded Nica Sueño (Spanish for “Single Dream”), a highly successful modern cigar factory. Their mission is simple: they combine quality tobacco and experienced rollers to produce great cigars.
Try the following six RoMa Craft Cigars; you be the judge.
RoMa Craft Neanderthal HoxD
The RoMa Craft Neanderthal HoxD arose from Skip Martin’s desire to create a cigar that was both wonderfully complex and immensely strong - and from the looks of the cigar alone, he wasn’t far off.
It has a beautifully dark, oily San Andres Maduro wrapper that is as much as delight to the eyes as it is to the savory senses. Inside, it makes artful use of an equally rich blend of binder and filler tobaccos from Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Nicaragua (several, including Estelí and Jalapa tobaccos) and the Dominican Republic. There are several very powerful Ligero tobaccos in the mix as well.
Very rich, very powerful, and surprisingly complex, this full-flavored cigar is earthy and robust, with serving up notes of pepper and chocolate to put a sharp accent mark on its strength. Interestingly, the name of this cigar is a reference to the HoxD genes, which are present in humans and believed to affect the strength of the limbs - a fitting name for a cigar this powerful.
RoMa Craft Neanderthal LH Limited
The RoMA Craft Neanderthal LH Limited is very similar to the Neanderthal HoxD and, like it, is a very powerful cigar.
It also features a Mexican San Andres wrapper and a unique assortment of binder and filler tobaccos from Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. It is equally appealing to the visual senses, being dark, oily and very opulent looking, to say the least.
On the pre-light, this cigar, like the HoxD, is replete with notes of pepper and chocolate. Early in the life of the smoke, it is equally earthy and spicy, serving up heavy notes of pepper, chocolate and earth. As the cigar matures into the second third, it offers up a bit more of an earthy sweetness.
Very strong, with an even draw and burn, this is another extremely powerful, full-bodied cigar for which only descriptors of flavor will not suffice. Try one when you have a chance.
RoMa Craft Neanderthal Genetic Deformity Limited Edition
This full-bodied, impressively strong RoMa craft cigar is another must-try, especially while you have the chance. It’s one of the more visually appealing RoMa craft highlights on this list. With its “barber pole” appearance, this cigar is striking - it features a wrapper made of Ecuadorian Habano and Connecticut Maduro tobaccos.
The binder and filler tobaccos, as on so many other RoMa specials, are composed of tobaccos from Connecticut and Pennsylvania in the United States, as well as from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.
Complex, earthy and powerful, as is customary of so many RoMa Craft cigars, the Maduro wrapper adds a bit of sweetness, for a perfect balance of power and complexity.
RoMa Craft Neanderthal Robusto SGP
This gem sports a Mexican San Andres wrapper and boasts Connecticut Maduro filler as well as several Nicaraguan fillers. It also features two Ligero fillers, Olor Ligero from the Dominican Republic and Double Ligero from Pennsylvania.
Don’t let the small stature of the Neanderthal Robusto SGP fool you - this is a very powerful cigar, despite its balance and complexity. Like so many other RoMa Craft Cigars, many of its key notes are heavy and earthy, but it also rounds them out with notes of pepper and chocolate. Full and spicy, you’ll want to take a decent amount of time to appreciate this cigar fully.
RoMa Craft CroMagnon Pestera Muierilor
Small but powerful, the RoMa Craft CroMagnon Pestera Muierilor’s first distinguishing feature is its beautiful dark Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper. Its binders and fillers are from Cameroon and Nicaragua.
Highly regarded by both critics and casual cigar smokers alike, it’s been commended for its delicate balance of flavors, excellent draw and construction. It serves up rich, toasty notes of earth, wood, pepper and other spices, staying strong throughout the life of the smoke.
RoMa Craft Baka Pygmy
What’s really interesting about the RoMa Craft Baka Pygmy is that its blend of tobaccos is not fully candid. While this cigar boasts a stunning Cameroon wrapper, RoMa Craft has remained hush on the binders and fillers they’ve chosen to include with this cigar.
Powerful, rich and complex, it’s the consummate RoMa Craft Cigar. Spicy, earthy, and even citrusy, critics have lauded the cigar for its diverse portfolio of notes, including the above as well as wood notes, pepper and other spices. They’ve also praised the cigar for its excellent construction, smooth draw and cool smoke. Unorthodox and unapologetic, the Baka Pygmy is another RoMa Craft blend you’d be sorry not to try.
